Jewel 98.5 FM operating in Ottawa is a Soft AC station owned by Evanov Communications. Legally known as CJWL-FM, the channel was approved when CKMW Radio Ltd. of William Evanov was allowed to operate an English language commercial radio on a frequency of 98.5 MHz suing an ERP of 700 w. The originally proposed 88.5 MHz was not allowed. ERP was allowed to decrease to 485 w in Nov 2005. Jewel 98.5 FM signed on air on Feb 20, 2006 from its studios at 127 York Street in the Byward Market. Average ERP was increased to 1,100 w in 2009. CRTC renewed the license of the CJWL-FM on March 21, 2013 validating it until Aug 31, 2019.
