98.1 CHFI launched in Feb 1957 is an Ontarian Hot AC station owned by Rogers Media and operating in Toronto. James Piggott received the license and would air on a frequency of 98.1 MHz using an ERP of 282 watts as approved by CBC board. It started its broadcasts from 13 Adelaide Street East on Feb 1, 1957. CHFI-FM Ltd was the company having ownership to radio and was incorporated by James in 1958. ERP was increased to 9,450 in 1959. The channel was purchased by Aldred Rogers Ltd. in Oct 1960. Power was increased to 210,000 w in 1961.

Ted Rogers (the owner of Rogers Broadcasting Ltd.) became the owner by acquiring Joel’s (his partner) share in 1962. CHFI-AM got opened on Aug 8, 1962 and would now simulcast the Good music carried by FM sibling. The permission were given by CRTC to play more classical from midnights to 5:00 in 1977. The radio hit #1 position in BBC ratings of Spring 1994 with an audience near million. CJCL, CFTR, CKIS-FM, CFMT, CITY and CJMT are the siblings. Toronto’s Perfect Music Mix is the catchphrase of the 98.1 CHFI.
