The channel was launched on January 1, 1981 as a rebroadcast transmitter of the CBCS 99.9 FM established on May 5, 1978. It was one of the 20 repeaters owned by CBC Radio One division of CBC. CRTC renewed the license of the radio 46,000-watt Class B transmitter on May 28, 2013 with validation up to Aug 31, 2018.
