CKDU 88.1 FM tracing it origins back to 1964 is a Campus radio station at Dalhousie University. The radio club at the campus after moving to the newly structured building of Dalhousie Student Union commenced its initial broadcast with the aid of speakers. By 1975 the channel (now CKDU) moved to closed circuit in the locality. With the help of students at the campus and by the sincere efforts of volunteers CKDU was able to make it on air on FM dial on February 1, 1985 using a frequency of 97.5 MHz and 33-watts transmitter – CRTC granted the Student station license on October 10, 1984. The frequency was reset to 88.1 MHz while effective radiate power was incremented to 520 watts after an approval coming from CRTC on April 12, 2000. Another increase was made in ERP making the power 3,200 watts on May 27, 2005 followed by a decrease to 2,460 watts.
