Classic Rock Free 98.1 FM launched on July 5, 2011 is a Classic Rock station based in London, Ontario. CKLO-FM was approved by CRTC on Feb 2, 2009. Soon to be launch radio would get a frequency of 98.1 MHz and use 4,000 watts ERP. Blackburn Radio Inc. formally owning The London Free Press Newspaper proposed Adult Album Alternative format for audiences between ages of 34 and 64. Category 1, 2 and 3 of music as per the decision of the CRTC were included in 40:30:10 in the programing. Blackburn Radio Inc., owned by Cogent Investments Inc. applied for a change in the authorized contours which was approved by CRTC on Jan 12, 2011 increasing the avg. ERP to 12,600 watts and max to 40,000 watts.

On June 22, 2011 Free 98.1 FM started its test transmissions as Blackburn Radio’s first launch in London in a span of 12 years. In Nov 2012 Deredk Rock Botten joined the station to host The BIG Show with Blair Henatyzen and Lisa Brandt; the show was replaced by The Stax Show in Feb 2015.
