FM96 London aka CFPL-FM is a Rock radio launched on May 15, 1948 and is currently owned by Corus Entertainment. London’s Best Rock is the catchphrase used by the channel. CFPL-AM is the sister channel. Initially launched in the spring of 1948 by The London Free Press Printing Co. Ltd., the station changed its frequency from 93.5 to 95.9 MHz on Aug 25, 1949. In the same year it started to host its original content separate from CFPL-AM. In Nov 1953 CFPL-TV made its debut. ERP was approved for an increase up to 4,890 watts. Until the end of 1972 CFPL-FM as a CBC Radio Network affiliate was rebroadcasted its content classic hits. UWO’s (University of Western Ontario) Progressive Rock was also borrowed by the FM. CRTC approved the reformatting to Rock and Country in 1978.

CFPL-FM was renamed as FM96 on Jan 6, 1979 changing its format to album rock and also played Jazz and Country. As per BBM Surveys done in 1990 it became the highest rated station in London. In 1998 the CFPL-FM celebrated its 50th birthday. After the sale of CFPL-TV to Baton Broadcasting in 1994, the corporate name of the owner was changed to Blackburn Radio Inc. Shaw Radio Ltd. purchased the station along with its siblings in Aug 1999. Corus Entertainment Inc. was founded after the split of assets of Shaw Communications. On May 15, 2008 FM 96 Celebrated 60th year on the air. CRTC validated the license of the FM96 on Nov 30, 2010 until Aug 31, 2017.
