Mix 96.7 aka CHYR-FM is Windsor’s Hit Music station broadcasting Hot Adult Contemporary and owned by Blackburn Radio. The launch of the station dates back to 1954 when Albert A. burner was approved to set up a station using a frequency of 710 kHz using an ERP of 250 w. CJSP went on air on Feb 19, 1955 from its studios at 23 Erie Street North. ERP was increased to 1,000 w in 1960. Calls of the station were changed to CHYR on June 26, 1967 and the radio was operating on 730 kHz from Aug 1967 onwards. Rogers acquired 83% of CHYR’s share from Sun Parlor Broadcasters Ltd. in 1968. In Nov 1975 Dancy Broadcasting Ltd. came forward to purchase Sun Parlor Broadcasters. Nighttime wattage was increased to 1,000 w in 1980.

Maclean-Hunter was allowed to acquire CHYR from Rogers in July 1987. Format of the station was changed from AC to Canadian Country in 1991. It switched to FM band in July 1993; 96.7 was the news frequency and the radio would operate using an ERP of 19,320 w. Rogers acquired Maclean-Hunter Ltd. in 1994. Country format was once again changed to Adult Contemporary in April 2001. ERP was decreased to 10,650 w in July 2006. The station was branded as Mix 96.7 in March 2008.
