The Coast 89.7 FM launched on December 3, 2007 is a local music station in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. Bill MacNeil is the current General Manager at station owned by The Coastal Community Radio Cooperative Coastal which received an approval to establish the community FM on July 5, 2007. Home of the VIP’s is the slogan used by The Coast 89.7 FM. The proposed radio would be a Type B, commercial radio and would broadcast community and general interest programing with music including Local, Pop, Rock, Dance and others using a frequency of 89.7 MHz and an ERP of 4,700 watts. Local news, sports, weather and local arts and culture will also be covered.

After some signal testing The New Coast 89.7 FM (CKOA-FM) was officially launched on December 3, 2007. Before that the channel was recognized as a low power (50 watts) special event station with a temporary tower launched during the East Coast Music Awards in Cape Breton. Nova Scotia Music Award Nominee is also the nominee of Small Market Radio Station of the Year for years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and eventually begged it in 2011. Audiences can have the best local music as the CKOA 89.7 FM promotes indigenous artists from East Coast and Canada, Artist of the Week, news, weather updates, events, contests (Warm Up To Winter Contest, Celtic Colours Ticket Giveaway, Celtic Colours Artist Profiles, ‘What Are You Thankful For’ Contest), and more on the official web-page.
