Putra FM, a Universiti Putra Malaysia Campus Radio Station, is the first digital campus radio among the universities of the country. Studio’s design and the selection of appropriate equipment for this studio is with the assistance of the Radio Television Malaysia (RTM). UPM campus radio station has been operating under the support of the RTM or specifically Selangor FM. With an MOU signed between the parties the cooperation is continued between RTM and Putra FM. The programs hosted at studio emphasize Youth education by providing major programs of education, information and entertainment. Because Putra FM is used for academic purposes, the surrounding communities will also receive the benefits, especially in terms of exposure to science culture, science and technology, including information and communications technology. Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has begun offering the Bachelor of Communications in 1998 with specialization of the four Broadcasting, Journalism, Communications Corporate Communications and Humanities. To support this academic program, UPM has built facilities such as laboratories Photographic laboratories and the laboratory broadcasting speeches. The laboratory broadcasting has two units of radio and video production. Radio production unit has now been allocated to upgrade the campus radio station. The channel can be heard in Serdang and surrounding area through at 90.7 FM. A Bit about Studios and Facilities of Putra FM
Putra FM uses a computer based or basic digital system as a whole. Studios are divided into four sections, namely On Air Conti, Editing and Scheduling, Master Control Room (MCR) and Recording Suite. Its uses Digital Radio System software Mediatron German output which is first used in Malaysia and has optional access via internet radio. Recording and editing machines (Post Station II) is first used in Malaysia. Radio transmitter is capable of generating the coverage area of the Klang Valley. The cooperation and support from Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
